これを見るまで学生は知らないことなんですが、私は学生のことを「ゆかいな仲間たち」と勝手に呼んでいます。私は教員なんですが、毎回毎回授業を楽しくしてくれる学生たちに感謝しながら、仲間に入れてもらったみたいな気分でいます。これからもずっと仲間に入れてくれるといいんですが…。

まずは、夏学期のクラスが無事に終わったことを祝って、お手伝いしてくださった日本人や一緒に会話を練習したA&M大学の学生を呼んで「アイスクリームを食べながらの二次会」をします。自分でアイスクリームは準備してもらわないといけないんですけどね。

Students don’t know this until… well, now… I have been secretly calling my students yukai na nakamatachi which roughly translates to “fun-loving buddies”. Even though I am a teacher, I am grateful for each of them making the class fun every single time and I feel like they allowed me to be a part of their group. I hope that they let me be a part of the group from here on as well…

First activity after the successful completion of the summer class is to hold an “ice cream social for the nijikai (second round party, customary to celebrations in Japan)” by inviting Japanese people who helped us this summer and the newly made friends at A&M University who practiced speaking Japanese with us. We have to follow the BYOI (Bring Your Own Ice cream) rule though.
