Turkish Red Lentil Soup

Red lentil soup is a popular Turkish dish. It is frequently drank during dinner. Turkish people usually drink  it as an appetizer when eating dinner. Because I drank this soup a lot as a child, and because it is easy to make, I enjoy making it. So everyone, try making it, too.

 

Ingredients:

Serves 3

  • tbsp oil
  • 3/4 cup (120 g) onion chopped
  • 1/2 tsp (0.5 tsp) paprika
  • 1/2 tsp (0.5 tsp) red pepper flakes
  • 1-2 tbsp (1 tbsp) tomato paste
  • 1 tbsp chopped mint leaves
  • 1/2 cup (90 g) red lentils
  • 2 1/2 cups (2.5 cups) water
  • 1/2-3/4 tsp (0.5 tsp) salt

 

Recipe

  1. Heat oil in a saucepan. Add onions and cook for five minutes.
  2. Add the tomato paste and cook on medium heat for one minute.
  3. Add red lentils, spices, and water. Mix them. Cover the saucepan. After boiling, cook for 15 minutes at medium heat.
  4. After cooling for a bit, blend the soup. It is ready to serve.
